Geography

Uzbekistan is a country of Central Asia. It has common borders with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan. Nature is rich and diverse, represented by mountains, valleys and deserts. The country takes its natural wealth from two great rivers of Central Asia - Amu Darya and Syr Darya .

The area of Uzbekistan is 447 400 km². The capital is Tashkent. Tashkent is the only Central Asian city having a subway. The main cities of Uzbekistan are Samarkand, Bukhara , Khiva , Fergana.

Climat

Climate of Uzbekistan is acutely continental, that makes this country an ideal place for travelling throughout the whole year. Still, the favorable period of visiting Uzbekistan is March – November. The peak of the heat falls on the period from June 25 to August 5, that’s called chilla, when there is no unnecessary hurry and the temperature can reach 40o C., but the climate is dry, so the heat is easily bearable.

Nations / Religions

Uzbekistan is a multinational country with 120 nationalities. It’s a secular state. The main religion is Islam, but all confessions are respected.

Currency

Local money is Uzbek sum (UZS). You can exchange money in the offices of national banks, special exchanging offices and in the big hotels. Credit cards also can be used only in banks and 4* hotels, so it’s preferable to have with you cash money.
